Environmental studies
Majestic Costa Rica stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea. With nearly 320 kilometers of coastline, Costa Rica boasts the world's greatest biodiversity per square kilometer. This relatively small nation offers incredible destinations, including vast rainforests, volcanoes, mountain rivers, beaches, and natural resources protected by national parks and forest reserves. Thanks to the topography and variety of geographic factors, RACE participants can experience diverse microclimates in a single day in a wide variety of forests. During these educational activities, we cover various environmental studies while practicing the Leave No Trace principle to reduce our carbon footprint.
Experience the jungle nightlife.
At three stations located at different points on the property, guests can observe numerous bat species, a wide variety of monkeys, the red-eyed tree frog, and a multitude of other creatures that thrive in Costa Rica. Listen as the jungle comes alive through its nocturnal inhabitants while learning the cultural significance of each animal's sound.
During a garden walk with host Alvino Fonseca, RACE guests explore the world of natural medicinal plants and their centuries-old uses. Alvino, shaman of the Cabécar tribe, has grown and used these plants in his healing work for over two decades. Enjoy this personalized guided tour while learning the ancestral wisdom of herbology and holistic medicine.

Mangrove excursions
In the misty zone between high and low tide, where fresh water meets salt water and the soil is neither liquid nor solid, mangroves grow. Inhabitants of the intertidal zones of the tropics and subtropics, mangroves are a curious collection of plants and one of the many unique wonders of Costa Rica's tropical climate. Learn about the four distinct types of mangroves while exploring some of the planet's most fascinating ecosystems.
