Service-Learning Programs

RACE supports various rural areas and the families who live there. By traveling through these rural communities, RACE leaders and guests forge relationships and establish service projects in the communities that need them most. We encourage exploration of the real Costa Rica and carefully plan programs focused on your group's philosophy and goals. Through our community service programs, guests experience a deep sense of personal growth, both individually and as a group. Each participant has the opportunity to improve lives, which in turn creates a positive impact in each community. Below are our main areas of focus:

Schools.

In collaboration with school children and their community leaders, our goals include cultural interaction with children, introducing games and other hands-on programs, and renovating classrooms and common areas. In many of these small communities, facility improvements are urgent. RACE participants collaborate on general renovations, such as preparing and painting walls or creating a group mural. We also build hydroponic gardens that allow children to learn science and botany, and provide vegetables for the school to serve or sell to raise funds for future improvements.

Orphanages

Donations and clothing distribution.

One of RACE's most important service projects is clothing distribution. RACE participants not only distribute baby clothing baskets to orphanages, but also to expectant mothers in local hospitals. Thanks to generous donations of clothing and supplies from families across the United States, RACE participants provide baby clothes and supplies to mothers who would otherwise not have the resources to obtain them. In addition, RACE offers child safety, childcare, and other similar classes to help new moms on their journey to motherhood.
