Cultural Immersion:
Costa Rica's cultural richness reflects in many ways the diversity of its people. At RACE, we believe the best way to experience Costa Rica is through its peaceful, democratic, kind, and hospitable people, affectionately called 'ticos.' Through our Cultural Immersion activities, participants experience this uniquely beautiful country through the eyes of its natives, their beliefs, customs, and language.
This eco-hike begins with an educational excursion into the forest, where we will search for and identify edible plants, roots, and trees. Back at the Adventure Center, these efforts culminate in a delicious authentically native meal, gathered and prepared by RACE participants.

Prepare Tortillas and Chocolate:
Learn the art of making tortillas, a traditional component of almost every Costa Rican meal. Discover the history of chocolate and participate in the entire process, from harvesting, drying, and fermenting, to roasting and grinding. You will be rewarded with a delicious treat!
Community Presentation.
An excellent way to meet local natives and their community. RACE participants are asked to locate, interview, and photograph the largest family, the oldest member, and the oldest profession. They explore the area following clues and other hints to find these three subjects/people. RACE staff assign them time and help develop the information gathered into a special presentation for the San Ramón community on the last night of our stay. After the final presentations, a farewell barbecue is offered with the community.
Other Cultural Immersion activities include:
- Trapiche Tour (Sugar Cane)
- Coffee tour
- Soccer match with locals
- Salsa dance classes
- Homestays
